Seeking Resource Material

Hey there, this sort of applies here but sort of not I guess.

I thought I would see if anyone can give me any resources or books on the history of mental asylums between oh 1900 and 1960. I need to know all I can about the different treatments and places, daily living, etc.

I've found a bit of books on it, but unfortunately they are print only.

I want the info for a possible book idea that relies heavily on asylums and life within, etc. The time period exactly hasn't been set yet, but will be someplace between 1900 and 1950 for certain.

The topic isn't a happy one, but the resources will help me create the most realistic setting for my fictional characters as possible.

I can't say a whole lot on the plot as it is just a vague idea, but it will be set sometime in the early 20th century, focusing on either a girl or a boy, have not decided yet, who ends up sent to an asylum because his or her parents believe them to be mad what with seeing things that they believe aren't real.

But the premise is that what they see is actually real indeed, monsters and the like, and glimpses of another place entirely.

There's going to be some fun bits I think in the story along with aco-protagonist and maybe some other quirky things.

Any help would be most appreciated in this and yeah this doesn't really fit here but sort of, I am in need of resources.

Thanks a bunch!
